Amazing Race

Day 2 at Disneyland started off with the 2nd Crandall Family Amazing Race! Kristen did such a great job with the first one we had in South Carolina, that we decided it needed to be a part of our family reunions in the future. I had a lot of fun planning this one and learned a TON about Disneyland in the process. I decided, with all the kiddos we now have, a foot race made much more sense than having to pull kids in and out of carseats the whole time. Glad we did, because I know all the youngin's cried for at least a portion of the race, and I think Daphne cried almost the whole time for Dan. But it was all worth it! The Crandall family is VERY competitive, so our kids are learning young, that the race is something we take very seriously. Haha.

The family was split into two teams. Team One consisted of Spencer, Eli, Dan, Daphne, Mike, Natalie, Tori, Kristen F., Zoey, and Holly. Team Two consisted of Paul, Andrew, Cami, Boston, Max, Cort, Boedi, Kristen, Aidan, and Abby. I was the "Host and a Half" for the event.

Each team was given a packet of clues. When they found the answer to the clue, they had to take a picture, text it to me, and I would tell them which clue envelope to open next.

First clue:

“The Test Wall”

According to legend, this wall was made to test various masonry designs and brick types for use throughout the park. Since money and time were pretty tight in the weeks leading up to Disneyland's opening, it's possible that the Test Wall may have been overlooked, forgotten or simply left as is, allowing its slipshod appearance to survive the last 55 years.

Find the test wall and send a picture of all the FEMALES standing next to the wall to the “Host and a half” to receive your next clue.

(apparently team 2 thought they were all females but I gave it to them....)

Another clue:

“I Spy Mickey OR I Spy Nothing!”

In this detour, teams must choose between:

I Spy Mickey: Mickeys are everywhere at Disneyland, the Mickey Mouse emblem is impossible to miss. Hundreds of them are scattered across the park, for example, you will find them on the floral wallpaper of the first aid stations (which you now cannot use as one of them!). Take a picture of 5 different emblems containing two different team members in each (the idea is, you should end up with everyone pictured by the end). Send the pictures.

I Find Nothing: Find the sign that reads: “THIS IS A BLANK SIGN!...” Count all the letters on the sign, proving just how “blank” the sign is. Send the number and picture.

Once the appropriate picture(s) are received by the “Host and a Half”, you will receive your next clue.

(Everyone chose to "I Spy Mickey")

The youngest team members were pretty "relaxed" about the race....

Another Clue:

“Heart…..er, Jail Breaker”

How strong are you? Strong enough to break through jail bars?

The proof is in the pic. Send a picture of your “strongest” team member breaking out of jail to “the “Host and a Half” to receive your next clue.

Another Clue:

“May the Force Be with You” OR “As Mad as a Hatter”

In this detour, teams must choose whether to:

1.  Appear as a Jedi in training. Each team member must be holding a lightsaber striking their most Jedi-like pose.

2. Try on a hat for size where all the mad hatter’s hats preside. Everyone must be present in the picture. No one can wear two hats that are alike.

Send the picture of the completed detour to the “Host and a half” to receive your next clue.
(Team One appeared to struggle a little with the picture requirements of this one this time....The "Host and a Half" had a little bit of leniency given the little kiddos for both teams)

Another Clue:

“The Cheap Side

of Disney”

The number one complaint about Disney Souvenirs is their pricing. Work as a team to find a souvenir that costs less than a dollar.

Purchase this item and take a picture of the team member considered to be the biggest “tight-wad” holding the souvenir and receipt. Send it to the “Host and a half” to receive your next clue.

There were quite a few more clues as well, but that gives you an idea of a few. Part of the final clue (go figure...the web isn't as up-to-date as it seems!) was impossible as the exhibit no longer existed at Disneyland, so I quickly had to do some re-arranging and have the teams take pictures at the Iron Man exhibit to buy me some time before the finish line.

Team One was victorious! Both teams did an awesome job, even despite a few hiccups along the way. I had fun planning it and I hope everyone else had as fun racing it! Until the next Amazing Race!
