Gabe's Eagle & Dan's upcoming graduation!

Dan's younger brother, Gabe, got his Eagle on December 1st. We were happy we got to help him celebrate such an awesome accomplishment!

Graduation update! The chain is getting smaller... Daphne is sure going to miss helping Daddy remove the links each night. We are ready for him to graduate this Friday!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Just a few fun things to document the beginning of the holidays:

Daphne's Christmas Tree. I always had my own little Christmas Tree growing up and my parents would get us a new ornament to put on our tree each year. We decided to continue the same Christmas tradition at our house.

Our Christmas Tree.

We always get new ornaments each year to represent the year as well as one for every place we visit. This year? The stork brought Daphne!

Dan usually isn't picky when it comes to decorations but every year without fail both his Saints ornaments have to hog the top of the Christmas tree.

To start off December with the Christmas Spirit Daphne and I went with my parents to the Midway Christmas celebration on December 1st. They had fun booths and nativity scenes from around the world to look at.

Then this past weekend we had three Christmas Parties to attend. I only got pictures of the first one, which was the Black Family Christmas Party at Red Robin. Dan never quite made it. He had to come late so he drove separate, on the way there his car broke down and he spent the afternoon getting it towed. Oh such fun! But he did make it in time to join me for the annual Ugly Sweater Party that his cousin, Cort, throws every year. I am pretty sure there is a picture of us floating around somewhere of us at the party. Then Sunday we had my mom's family Christmas Party.

Countertops!

We set aside money for new countertops and a sink when we bought our house and 3 years later we finally bit the bullet and got new ones! Why we waited so long? No idea. I still wonder every day why I put up with a sink that leaked and countertops that my shirts would catch on and get holes ripped in them all the time...

anyways, point to all of this? We feel spoiled to finally have a new sink and countertops!

9 Months!

Once again, I am working on finishing Daphne's 9 month post before she turns 10 months!

This month Daphne was a little too busy to sit still.
With her new found mobility she left her owl in the dust!

It is really weird to think about the fact that Daphne has was born 9 months ago...the exact same amount of time she lived in my belly. I have to say, although I have absolutely loved both experiences, I definitely have preferred these past 9 months more than the previous. It is so fun to watch her grow and interact more with us each and every day. This little girl of ours has such a big personality. She is still as energetic, sassy, and crazy as ever and has even turned into quite the tease lately. She loves to do anything to make others laugh and especially enjoys laughing at herself. Half the time we have no idea what she thinks is so funny, but we go with it:) Daphne has also learned how to throw quite the temper tantrum (well, let's be honest, I think she learned how to do that while in the womb but now she knows how to full out kick and scream as well), I prefer the laughter, but it's worth the package deal.

What has been most fun as she has grown older is to watch how proud she is of herself as she accomplishes major tasks. Her newest task? She learned to crawl! She became quite the mobile little girl over the past month and loves to crawl, sit up in her bed, pull herself up in the standing position, etc. She has been rocking back and forth and scooting for a little bit now and then about the week before Thanksgiving she began to experiment with crawling here and there. We decided to put our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving which turned out to be the perfect motivation for Daphne to become a full-fledged crawler. She enjoys seeing what new kinds of trouble she can now get into. I have to admit, everyone warns against wanting your kids mobile, but we love it. Daphne was so frustrated there for awhile at her lack of mobility  (she has always had much more willpower than strength. She would have been running marathons from day one if her body would allow) that it is great to see her so happy and proud of herself for being able to be a "big girl". She now is much happier and willing to play on her own versus needing mommy to help her be mobile 24/7.

This is the first time she stood up in her bed. I was trying to document that she had just stared to sit up in her bed when she decided to stand as well!

This month's stats:
Height: 27 inches (50th percentile)
Weight: 17.3 lbs (25th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17 inches (75th percentile)

So, still skinny as can be but she definitely had a growth spurt. Now she is tall and skinny. It will be interesting to see if she takes after the height of my family or stays petite like her Grandma Jasmer. Either way, it looks like we have a skinny on our hands. She still wears mostly 0-3 month or 3-6 month bottoms with having such a skinny butt. She wears 3-6 month tops mostly and size 2 shoes. It has been nice that her clothes are lasting me longer than expected. I have ran into more the problem of having tons of clothes fitting her in the wrong season. All her dresses in her current size are summer dresses and her Christmas dresses will probably fit her next summer. Oh well!:)

Once again, her visit went great. She clapped in excitement to have her photo taken at the doctor's office (more likely she was enjoying being naked) and loved playing with the blinds. Daphne was too busy to be very upset about her shots between playing with the water in the doctor's sink and the office blinds.

Speaking of sinks.... she is still obsessed! I have to watch her even more careful now that she has learned that there are fun drawers and knobs to play with below the sink. She pretty much won't let us get away with walking past any sink in our house now without giving her the opportunity to play and possibly get wet.

Daphne especially loves our new kitchen sink and was super excited that I let her play in it with the water on one night while cooking dinner.

Another favorite thing of Daphne's is our computer. She knows that mommy spends way too many hours a week on it between working mostly from home, paying bills, etc. This past month prior to learning how to crawl, Daphne has had a really rough time with me working (she would cry if we even walked by the room) so I had to get creative and often let her sit on top of the desk and "help" me, which she loved. Now that she is crawling, it has gotten much better because she can move around and get into trouble when mommy is not watching instead.

Daphne also loves to wave! She waves at the camera, at her food, at her toys, anyone passing by, etc. She is waving in the top left picture as well as the one on the left below. She thinks it is especially fun to wave with both hands and waves towards her so it looks like she is saying "come here!". Abuelita (her great grandma) waves the same way.

Daphne also loves going shopping (what girl wouldn't?). She is a little small for the seat part of the cart and gets frustrated when she starts to topple from side to side (since her legs are dangling she can't use them to support herself), so lately she has gotten the privilege of sitting with the groceries, which she loves because it gives her the ability to move around, play with everything, and sit on her own.

More proof of her love for shopping:

Enjoying being a big girl at target. I sure wish every store had these kind of carts! The picture in the middle is Daphne's excited face.
Playing with shoes at the shoe store

Ready to go with her toothbrush in tow! She loves to bring her toothbrush with her everywhere. Her toothbrush and sprinkle containers are definitely her favorite toys.

The only way I could keep her from trying to climb out of the cart was to get innovative and put her in a laundry basket. It sure beat having to hold her the entire trip!

Dan's favorite memory of this past month would most definitely be having Daphne finally watch a Saints game with him. She even got to wear her Saints Jersey we bought her before she was born (which is still huge on her I might add).

She loves anyone with fun hair and necklaces to play with and enjoys a bit of technology too. Our phones are great tools to distract a grumpy Daphne.

Eating at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Grandpa was teasing her with the food and making her work really hard with her mouth open wide for quite some time as she tried to catch each bite. We caught her successfully using her sippy cup on camera. She knows how to but prefers to still just play with it for the most part.

She is finally starting to cuddle for a few seconds here and there. The picture on the right is of us at temple square to see the Christmas lights. We couldn't help but laugh at how Daphne looked like one giant marshmallow, unable to move her arms and legs, in her snowsuit. It reminded us of the little boy on the Christmas Story who was so overdressed for school he could barely walk. I was happy she was finally able to wear her snowsuit. It is 0-3 months in size and was a gift from her Grandma Jasmer for her to wear last winter when she was first born but she never got the chance.

Daphne's cute piggy. She also celebrated her first Thanksgiving and started off the day by helping me look at the ads.

Enjoying playing with the Christmas tree.

A few last tidbits:

- She still has on and off "stranger danger" depending on the moment and time of day. She is mostly scared of other men. Women seem to get lucky enough to hold her as long as she is held looking out so she can't tell who it is that is holding her (with mommy and daddy far away so that they can't rescue her).

-She is a momma's girl all the way, especially when she is tired or upset. If I am not there to save her, her next favorite is daddy or the grandma's.

-Has been a horrible napper, but it looks like there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. Mobility and remembering how to self soothe at naptime didn't quite go together there for awhile.

-Loves food! She is such a pig, just like Dan. I swear she can eat almost just as much as him. She eats and eats and eats all day long. She loves feeding herself and is a huge snacker. It is very rare for her to refuse food.

Half dressed prior to her photo shoot. She sure is going to miss our Christmas tree.
Until next month (er...this month since I am behind but you get the picture)!
