Shoppin' and Votin'

Daphne had fun today helping me with the grocery shopping and voting. She enjoyed sporting her "I voted" sticker and especially loved digging through the groceries in the cart!

Proud to have voted!

She didn't last long up front so I resorted to the one of the two options I had. A) Carry her, which I have done way too many times -OR- B) Let her play in the cart! It is definitely my new favorite option (and hers too!). She was very helpful.

I think I bought the cutest thing available in the store!

Peacock with a Personality

After all the festivities were over Halloween night, Dan and I enjoyed looking through the photos we took of our cute peacock. We couldn't help but laugh when we came across these that Dan took with his phone. The pictures proved her personality to a "T" by showing how determined our little girl can be! (fyi: these pictures were not taken in a row, they were taken throughout the photo shoot as she attempted to give Boston candy on multiple occasions) We are sure grateful that her best buddy is so patient with her!

Hey Boston, want some candy?

Hey Boston, you should really have some candy....

Fine. If you don't want it, I will force you to have it!

Halloween

Halloween and Christmas are probably both tied in the running as to which is my favorite holiday. I have been so excited to be able to dress Daphne up for her first Halloween that I started working on her costume months before, which was a really good thing because I got so busy I didn't even finish it until the day of. We had such fun both preparing for Halloween as well as celebrating it!

A few weekends before we got together with my brother, Rueben, and his wife, Kamille to decorate haunted gingerbread houses. We did the same thing with them last year when they were dating and I am pretty sure we will keep this as a yearly tradition. Last year Rueben and Kamille were too busy flirting and painting each other's faces with frosting that Dan and I actually stood a chance at having our house look somewhat decent in comparison with theirs. This year...well not so much. They were super quiet all evening as they worked on their masterpiece will Dan and I enjoyed trying to be as funny as possible with ours to make up for our lack of talent:) We decided to make it a contest in hopes that we would win, well, let's just say that we now owe them dinner.

Left: The masterpiece. Right: The tease....everything from the tombstones, the writing on the house, to the personal Rueben and Kamille skeletons burning to ashes...yup.

We also had our friends, Mike and Julia, over one night to decorate sugar cookies and carve pumpkins (which we never got to... but it's the thought that counts, right?), a tradition that we have had for a few years now. Once again, it's a good thing we just do such things for fun....

Mike's masterpiece

Dan's upside down bat? (or at least that is what he is claiming it is). Someone called it a rainbow... can't believe they didn't think it looked like a bat?!? ;)

Now to the actual day of Halloween! Presenting little miss peacock in honor of Aunt Nat's peacock fetish:

Daphne got to go trick or treating to see three of her favorite households. Everyone was super excited to get a picture with Daphne. First stop, to see Aunt Nat, Uncle Mike, and their peacock neighbors.

Second stop, Grandma & Grandpa Jasmer and Uncle Gabe. She got the best reaction of the night from her Grandma Jasmer who couldn't help but shut the door in our face dying with laughter over the cutie and forgot all about letting the little peacock in:) While there we got to see her dino cousin, Boston, and she even got to go trick or treating to a few of the neighbors.

Third stop, Grandma and Grandpa Black's house where we got spoiled with a yummy dinner which included dinner in a pumpkin, roasted pumpkin seeds, apple cider, caramel apples, and pumpkin cookies. It was yummy! Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum (Kamille & Rueben) even stopped by while we were there too!

We took about 1000 pictures of the dino and peacock together. Smiling never happened, but we sure did get lots of pictures of them staring at us (wondering why we make all sorts of crazy sounds and huddle around them with a camera all the time) or staring at each other (they were definitely curious as to why the other was dressed so funny).

Presenting Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum:

Or in this case, they decided to make Dan both Twiddle Dee and Dum by sandwiching him (if you look closely their shirts point at the other calling each other Twiddle Dee or Dum)

And the dinner in a pumpkin: I should have taken a picture before when it was pretty versus after we dug in, but this proves that it was super yummy because we scarfed it all down!

Can't wait for next Halloween:)

Our lil' 8 Month Old!

Daphne turned eight months old on October 27th. So far, Daphne has had a doctor's appointment at least every month of her life due to illness, acid reflux or just a wellness visit. The upside to all of this? We usually get to know her weight and height growth quite regularly. Right now she weighs about 16 lbs (she wiggled too much to get an accurate weight). I am guessing she is in about the same percentiles as last month.

Biggest change in Daphne over the past month?? We have a rocker/attempting crawler with two teeth on our hands! She got both of her teeth just a few days after she turned 7 months and has been attempting to crawl all month. She loves to rock her body back and forth while on fours and often will take a step or two. She also loves to scoot around the house.

Taking her 8 month pictures ended up being over a course of two days because this little girl wouldn't sit still! She wanted to crawl, grab the camera, roll, scoot, etc. It was fun though:)

This was another favorite of mine.

Day 1 included lots of playing with her owl, my shoes, and especially the camera cord. She was trying to do everything in her power to get the camera out of my hands!

Day two included a few blank stares, diving/attempted to crawl to get the camera, taking a break to play with daddy, playing with the remote, etc. I have fun taking her pictures each month because of how long Daphne and I get to just play and giggle together. Most days I am busy working so it's a nice break for the both of us.
Other fun things about Daphne this past month:

She went bowling for the first time and got a spare! She helped me bowl and definitely increased my score.

Had fun with her "new to us" toys while watching General Conference on Saturday with Mommy (side note: I love the DI for toys for her! I can't believe how expensive they would be otherwise!)

Wore some pretty cute socks at Grandpa &Grandpa Black's
house for General Conference Sunday/Mommy's Birthday

Where's Daphne?!?                                                       Oh there she is!

I am pretty sure I have mentioned this before, but Daphne loves to play in laundry baskets! It is the only way we ever get laundry done is if we let her "help"! She also loves to play peekaboo. One day while Grandma Black was toting her around in a laundry basket she bent over to pick up some laundry and when she stood back up Daphne was giggling like crazy thinking that grandpa was trying to play peekaboo with her:)

Loves hanging out with her best buddy while their moms shop. They especially enjoyed this trip since they got to hang out in the back of the cart together. They thought it was the  funnest amusement park ride ever!
Loved going to the zoo, out to eat, and staying overnight in SLC during daddy's Fall Break from school. She loved having mommy and daddy's full attention versus our busy work and school schedules.

This was Daphne's first attempt at crawling and I couldn't help
but laugh at her frustration as she kept on getting stuck in the bucket.

Sat in a high chair for the first time.                                        Played with bubbles.
(she has a love-hate relationship with them                                      (look closely, top-left)
as her body is just a little too small to be
using them so it's easy for her to get tired
                         of holding herself up.)

Loves when mommy has a very busy day and                      One of mommy's favorite outfits.
lets her feed herself all on her own!

Excited to see mommy after a long 15 hour work day!

Is a very big helper when mommy works at home. I thought I could get away with turning her play pen into a ball pit to trap her in for a few minutes. She saw right through my plan. It was a good ten minutes though before she re-joined me on my lap and helped me type my emails:)

Still loves her Jumperoo                                      Sat in a pumpkin (against her will)

Held still enough to watch a movie with mommy and
daddy for about 10 seconds thanks to her favorite toy!

Loves to go on walks, especially when her friends Ella, Mia, and Tate join (we often go on walks with a neighbor and her kids and love the company!).

Has long enough hair to wear it in a little piggy tail. Her first piggy was also her last piggy for quite awhile after she attempted to swallow the hairband, but it is still fun she is getting more hair (and pretty much doesn't have a bald spot anymore too!) :)

Other random facts:

* She loves to turn off and on lights and pretty much help with anything around the house

* She is definitely a water baby and loves to get wet no matter what the temperature is. She loved getting to swim again when we stayed in Salt Lake over Fall Break. She splashes like crazy both there and in the bath tub. She has continued to love to play in the sink, especially now that she knows how to turn the water on. I don't know how I will ever get ready for the day when she no longer fits in the sink!

* Is starting to drink her formula well again. We had about a month where, due to teething, she refused to eat much at all. I was lucky if I could talk her into drinking 10 oz of formula. We are starting to get closer to being back to the goal of 24 oz that the doc gave us! She is a pig when it comes to regular food though. I swear that girl is always hungry! She takes after the Crandall family's metabolisms. She can eat and eat and eat and not gain a pound.

* Is working her way into wearing 3-6 month clothing but still has quite a few 0-3 month items.

* Saw snow for the first time but it melted before I had a chance to let her play with it.

* Is outgrowing the stranger danger phase (except when she is really tired).

* Is still our favorite long lashed, blue eyed, little girl ever!

Lunch with Daddy

Dan has been doing great in his student teaching! He has loved the experience and it has been worlds of difference from experiences he had in the past with his pre-student teaching. Today he got his second to last observation and scored 100% Such a blessing. He is going to be a great teacher. He has loves the school, teachers, and students at Club Heights Elementary . Last week Daphne and I decided it was time we saw how cool this school was so we made a lunch visit.

On her way to see daddy...
They were equally as excited to see each other

We ate first...
Then played...Daphne had fun showing off to all the other teachers in the lunchroom.

Then we visited daddy's classroom and met his cooperating teacher.

Then daddy helped us back out to the car.

What a fun lunch date.
